[Settlement? Psshaw. That was easy as pie. Zat didn't even think it was going to be much of a challenge. Unless, of course, this place decided that his magic is unworkable.]
Dliub Esuoh! [Nope.]
Dliub a Kcahs! [Nuh-uh.]
Tnet Raeppa! [Oh look, that one manages to work-- albeit it's a small tent, and only manages to fit one person.]
Oh hardy har har. This joke is getting stale really fast.

[that? is seriously way crash and deserving of a lot of attention, which Bart is very prepared to give right now, eyes wide and lips curved upwards in a wide grin as he stares at Zachary.]
How'd you do that?
no subject
What--? Where did you come from? [And oh.] Please. I'm the world's greatest teenage magician. This is hardly a problem for me.

in goodwill. the question doesn't faze Bart in the slightest though, and he merely gives Zach a cheeky smile and a small shrug.]Over there. [the words are accompanied by a thumb pointed at a small grove of palm trees some two hundred feet away.] But conjuring things out of midair is way more interesting than a couple'a turtles.
[but! but but!]
If a tent's small stuff, does that mean you could magic a castle out of midair? Or something even bigger?
no subject
[... Huff. Well.] If I had my full magic. Unfortunately, this place seems to be mocking me by suppressing my abilities. They're only afraid of what I can do.
no subject
Nah, Flash is my grandpa. I'm Impulse. [said proudly with a thumb pointed at himself because yeah he's proud of his lineage.] So what can you do with your full abilities? Probably really crash stuff, huh. Could you get us all out of this place with just a couple of words?
no subject
no subject
Really? [Bart miiiight just be deflating a little but mostly, he's just puzzled.] So you can't teleport us all out of here?
[bummer.]
no subject
Wouldn't running over the ocean be a skill of yours?
no subject
I already tried that. Except instead of getting anywhere all I did was conk out, and then I woke up under that coconut tree over there. [he points at the exact coconut tree, clearly feeling the need to highlight this part of his story.] It's like there's some magic barrier thing keeping us all in.
no subject
If that same barrier's also the cause for the dampening of my abilities, then we're talking about a very powerful spellcaster. I've never encountered one with the ability to teleport you back to a location when hitting the barrier.
no subject
[maybe. he didn't exactly read the history books on magic users.]

Bart is now going to comment on that Thing.]
Hey, you know Zatanna? [Totally brightening up at that because mutual friends! Ish.] Right, you guys are both magicians. So does that mean you guys are both in like some super secret magical society or something?
[He kinda missed the 'cuz' part.]
no subject
She's my cousin. How many magicians who speak backwards do you think even exists?
no subject
....A lot?
[HEY MAN, YOU NEVER KNOW there could be like some secret cult of magicians out there with black capes and hoods holding candles and chanting backwards spells so that the New York Yankees win over the Red Sox or something.]
I mean, they might not all be good magicians like you and Zatanna but they're still out there, right? [Speaking of him and Zatanna though.] Are you guys seriously related? That's crashing, dude. So does that mean you guys grew up together and practiced magic spells together and stuff?
no subject
Your ignorance overwhelms me. [He says flatly, annoyed, but otherwise cool. Right. Whatever.] Don't treat my magic like some sort of trinket that can be passed around. It's a family trade.
[Aaaand ouch.] Wow, you really don't know anything, do you? Do you always ask so many questions?
no subject
[Bart is so offended by Zach's words. And by offended he really means he's just put out that this supposedly cool dude thinks he's dumb. (Which he totally isn't, by the way.) Still, he's not one to linger over insults - thank two parts ADHD and one part just really not caring - and it's only a second before he's back on the obnoxious speedster wagon, curiosity all over his face.]
It's only 'cause the only magician I've met is Zatanna and we've only talked once. We're not exactly BFFs. And I thought asking questions was a good thing. Makes me a detective, like Batman.
no subject
I only got my magic a little more recently than she has, but she did teach me the trick of the trade. [He grudgingly admits, and he wonders why he's telling him this. Probably boredom.] Of course, with my natural talent, it was hardly an effort to learn.

[scott walks up to the other boy, a large stick held in one hand. his eyes are hidden behind his shades, but his voice reveals his wonder.]
How many more can you make? Or is it just the one?
no subject
I'm sure I can conjure a few more, if our hosts are kind enough to stop messing with my powers.
no subject
[was it just this kid or everyone else with powers too? scott didn't feel any different.]
no subject
And who might you be?
no subject
Oh. [where were his manners!!] I'm Scott. Nice to meet you. [holds his hand out for a shake]

no subject
Uh, yeah. I don't think anyone knows. Were you here yesterday?

no subject
Then today, we woke up on an island. [he honestly doesn't even remember falling asleep] Not everyone made it, looks like. Some of the people I spoke with yesterday aren't here today.
no subject
It could be that they ended up in another place altogether. This place doesn't feel very familiar, even by the standards of lost in the middle of nowhere.
no subject
What else can your magic do?
no subject
no subject
I guess the important question would be if you could get us out of here.
no subject
Teleportation? No. My magic can only affect objects, not humans. [Not to mention...] Besides, it hasn't been working properly since I got here. It could be a dampening field specifically for me, if it's not affecting anyone else.

Just who are you anyway?
no subject
While you're pulling things from the aether, could you grab me a med-kit?
no subject
Why, exactly, would I do that? Last I checked, I'm not some sort of errand boy for you.

Now, sooner or later someone IS going to get hurt. There are who knows what kind of animals and diseases and other hazards to worry about. The second I find out about an injury I will do my best to treat it, but having the right tools might mean someone gets to keep an arm when they otherwise wouldn't.
Or their life. Better tools mean a better survival rate. Something which I'd like to hope we're all aiming for.

If it has to, alcohol will work for the last two of those.
