If we are to follow the whims of our captors -- which I'm of two minds on, myself -- we should at least begin by figuring out who is best-suited for what. [briskly]

So go on. [she drops the tree, also casually, and then goes to tear out another. she's not sure how much wood they'll need] I require knowledge of how many are here, and what skills you possess. We will want someone with knowledge of plants to forage, and someone with skill at fishing. We will need a source of fresh water, and likely vessels fashioned to carry and hold our supplies in. Those with strength or skill at construction who can put together the shelters, and those who might construct defenses around the constructs.

And those of you who are more accustomed to living in human cities, well... [a beat. trying to think of something charitable] We will probably need someone to -- gather sticks, and the like.

I'm a surgeon. [Which may not even be helpful right now. But Simon has little doubt it will be sooner or later. He could be grudging about offering help, but these people seem to be fellow kidnapping victims, not the culprits. And Sif's strength is implausibly impressive. (Give him a second, this is all still very new to him.)] I'm used to operating with a little bit more equipment than what we have here, but not always by much.

If no one needs medical attention right now, well... [That's most of what he's got, to be honest.] I can cook. Probably. Or at least lend an extra set of hands.

That's a very useful skillset. [making note of it] I hope we will not have need of it, but it is very good to know that should that need arise...

I didn't even think to ask how many here could cook. [she's a little amused. everyone just... takes turns cooking, when she goes adventuring. even if you're not skilled at it, you know how] We'll definitely need that once we have food.

I hope so too. Sadly, the need probably WILL arise, but there's not much a I can do to prevent it.

But for now... Do you know if you can identify plants or fish that are safe to eat? Perhaps you could help with foraging or fishing.

Without a chemical analysis kit? I can make some guesses. I can definitely rule out the things that are obviously poisonous. But I doubt I'd recognize the wildlife here, and it's outside my area of expertise.

[without a whatsy what now? well, that's not the important part] Understandable. If you care for learn, Banner will be gathering people to take into the jungle; he seems confident in his ability to tell what is edible from what is not. But otherwise, anything you could contribute would be welcome. We will likely need ropes made out of grass or seaweed, tools crafted, drywood gathered... Even if you wished to try to gather together tools you might be able to use, with our limited resources. [she's not sure if you've got a scalpel and thread in that vest of yours]

Yes, scouting out an operating theater -- or at least, as close as I can get to one -- and looking for relatively sterile tools is probably a good idea. Better to do now than wait until it's too late.
