[morning of day three. there are clouds out and Allen loves them. he's pretty much given up on shirts and is just grimly bearing with his bright pink sunburn. the video shows him, and what he's working in his hands -- one dark red and exoskeletal -- is some thick grass, weaving several strands together to make a rope. he has a pretty decent amount of it. he's been working on it since the first day]

I feel really strongly that we should make a net so that we can catch more fish. [so that he can starve less. paaaause] But it's taking longer than I'd like. I don't suppose anyone else has any rope to contribute... [he trails off, staring at the water. it looks so cool and blue and inviting. and full of fish]

...You know, never mind. [shoving himself up and steeling his pink-and-red shoulders] Does anyone know how to hand-fish?

You're not going to light up the whole ocean and see how much of it you can kill with lightning, and certainly not while you couldn't even do a cartwheel. [Allen's standards might be slightly unusual. but they're still valid!]

What molecules were they? What's the cellular structure? When you peered into the microscope, did you see the face of God? Did he say, "Hey, quit staring at me! Go stone some adulterers in my name!"

[he's just going to stare at you until you say something less stupid]

In case it's not clear, I'm what you'd call a skeptic. When someone tells me they got their hammer from God, I ask questions.

Well, you're not wrong. [ wryly ] Tofu is what you eat when you hate yourself.

Who, me? Nah. If you can't rely on the -- unemployed nuclear physicist on the run from the authorities leaping wildly around in the sand on the beach, who can you rely on? [quirking a smile at her]

[antiapocalypse]

[ or alternatively ] ...I'm kidding. [ she grins ] Call me whatever you want. A little stuffy never hurt anyone. And you already like scones, so you're obviously a lost cause.

[antiapocalypse]

[ not intentionally! ]

...Yeah. Kind of a -- select group of people. [ beat ] Badass mall security.

I don't know anything about God. [in very simple, all-encompassing terms. he doesn't know God personally, and he's not sure he buys into the whole God thing] But the Innocence is alive and sentient, each piece passed down among the Black Priests until it finds the one conformer that can synchronize with it. The only way out, one way or another, is death.

There are only so many questions you can ask in that situation.

I'm beginning to think they just don't make grownups like they used to.

[ his attention sharpens on Allen while he talks. in the end, he disagrees, because he'd ask so many questions Komui's head would explode. but he says ]

This is where working for me is really going to pay off. We actually accept letters of resignation at any time. Plus, overtime. Paid vacation. No creepy alien parasites involved.

[ hey, he already knows some gods who are actually aliens, why not ]

[ Yeah, that gets him a raised eyebrow. ]

A cartwheel? [ Puts the rope down to pull out his tiny hammer. ] We've been in worse shape, man. This'd be peanuts compared to the Ark. Or old HQ. [ He is antsy to do something. There aren't even any books to help pass the time. ]

[yeah, but the Order lies, and questioning the Order is discouraged, and disobeying the Order means you turn into a monster and then die slaughtering many innocent lives, so. only so many questions, you see]

As long as I'm allowed to keep my current creepy alien parasite. Oh, I don't suppose there'll be a meal plan. The Order really had that part covered. [he's so hungry]

[that's all he's saying. and giving you this look. this look is a warning. further insubordinate action may result in face-punching. he is not playing games with your safety]

True enough. [a little chuckle] I'm sure I'd have slipped the moment I stopped thinking about it, anyway. I was raised to be... polite.

Yeah, if you want my advice... don't have anything to do with any of us, just, in general. We're bad news.

He seems a good enough sort. [by and large they've had good conversations, and she's enjoyed talking to him. she's willing to forgive him, if also willing to rearrange his teeth if she feels it's called for] And you two are...?

Then it seems they'll be just as well off not eating, doesn't it? [laughing, and then she snakes her arms deeper in the water, seizing another unsuspecting fish and yanking it out. this one escapes her while she's trying to get a better grip]

[considering others' reactions to Tony, Sif's is a relief] Engaged.

[frowning a little, but] That sounds grim. [she's heard worse, but it's somewhat troubling nonetheless] But you must have been very excited to have both of them live. Do they not have to fight their counterpart from their home district?

[neverforgets]

[ Inwardly cringes and looks away, over at the ocean. It'd be such a small thing, to invoke and call down the seal, and then he could just go back to boredom. ]

I'm going to get sicker anyway, so you can stop fussing... [ Muted, possibly a bit sullen. Rubs at the back of his neck. ]

[nodding! thinking about the positives! not about all those years of losing] Oh, so very excited!

[a bit less-- joyously] Normally, there is only one winner. But this year was an exception! Because-- oh, they are just so lovely! My tributes this year are in love, and they fought so hard to protect one another in the arena that-- oh, they just won everyone over!

[antiapocalypse]

[ she grins ] Good advice. I think I can handle myself, though.

[antiapocalypse]

[ she's amused, but can't resist asking ] How polite? Holding open doors, paying for dinner polite -- or, like, keeping those big complicated thoughts away from us womenfolk polite?

[ Yes, yes, Mr. Stark we all know you're very smart. Sits up in one of the angels, and starts brushing the sand out of his hair. ]

There's no time like the present to start, right? [ Little grin. ] I hear snow angels are more traditional, but it doesn't snow in Burbank, so I had to improvise.
