[morning of day three. there are clouds out and Allen loves them. he's pretty much given up on shirts and is just grimly bearing with his bright pink sunburn. the video shows him, and what he's working in his hands -- one dark red and exoskeletal -- is some thick grass, weaving several strands together to make a rope. he has a pretty decent amount of it. he's been working on it since the first day]

I feel really strongly that we should make a net so that we can catch more fish. [so that he can starve less. paaaause] But it's taking longer than I'd like. I don't suppose anyone else has any rope to contribute... [he trails off, staring at the water. it looks so cool and blue and inviting. and full of fish]

...You know, never mind. [shoving himself up and steeling his pink-and-red shoulders] Does anyone know how to hand-fish?

[ Lucina had things to say -- such as an offer to show him how to hand-fish to the best of her abilities. But, his arm catches her all-seeing gaze and Lucina frowns, concerning evident on her features. ]

Allen, your arm. Are you injured? I've no healing abilities but I know a little first aid.

Injured-- [he looks at his arms, startled, and then clues in sheepishly] Oh-- That, no. [he uses his right hand to rub sweat from his forehead. it's hot and he's hungry and not thinking clearly]

No, I was born with it like this.

That's -- a really bad sunburn. [ cautiously! ]

Oh, I know. [glumly] I light up like a Christmas tree if you get me in the sun for long. I can bear it, though.

[Christmas trees are lit with candles, by the way]

[ even weirder-looking with the shirt off! staring at it in a pretty unflattering way for a beat, before he says ]

I'll have to check with Pepper about the health care thing. I think it covers preexisting conditions.

[a briefly puzzled look, before he says frankly] Nearly the only word I understood you say is "Pepper", and you either used it as the name of a person, or you talk to table seasonings.

[Allen is deep in the shallows, trying to hold still and watching the darting of fish under the surface of the clear water. every now and then he takes a swipe, only to come up with nothing, or a fish that is too tiny to provide any sort of sustenance, so he releases it again awkwardly. he is a lot like an incompetent gangly sunburnt bear]

[you might be able to find him a little later gnawing on a cooked fish, or working on his net. it's going to be very sizable. you might get the idea it was intended to catch a lot of fish]

[ When Allen gets back to where he left his stuff, there is more rope! Because Lavi has been working on it in the meantime. It's the least he can do while being an unuseful lump next to the campfire. Weaving, weaving... ]

[Petunia catches the sight of Allen working diligently on his....BIG NET and trudges on over.]

Do you need any help? [h-hopefully he does! then she can help!!]

[Sif is stripped down to what amounts to scraps of fabric -- a thick strap of cloth tied around her chest, and a short skirt, with her hair caught back in a braid. There's no need for armor on this island, as has been made clear to her, and it's been hot and uncomfortable over the last two days, and her clothes are not in the best of shape by now, so she washed them and left them to dry. But some people are lucky, and rather than burn in the sun, she's developing a lovely glowing tan. She looks like the cover of a brochure instead of a stranded kidnap victim.]

[She mostly lounges on the beach, watching the action and taking a break from her own endeavors. When she goes into the water, she will snatch up fish. She knows what she's doing.]

[ when she catches the fish, it'll be to applause! half-serious, half-Tony applause. ]

[well, aren't you just the ideal! you are also someone Effie knows is helpful, so she approaches you. her exposed skin (which is pretty much all of it save where she is wearing underwear) covered in drying mud. it's sunscreen, improvised!]

Hello there, Sif! Are you-- you don't burn? How lucky! I saw a tribute cover himself in mud once, and it occurred to me today that it's a good idea. Otherwise, I'll be stuck in the shade all day!

[and being in the shade all day would mean very few people to talk to, and Effie does like talking to people!]

[Bruce is -- actually -- leaping around on the sand. Just flat out hurling himself into the air and landing in a crouch on the ground a few feet away, and then turning around and observing the results with his thinkingface on before hunkering down to do it again. What the hell is he doing? Find out!]

[ Lucina stands a careful few feet away, one hand swathed horizontally above her forehead to make it easier to see. ]

Bruce? Are you alright? [ HE ATE THE BERRIES, DIDN'T HE. ]

You weren't kidding about that up idea, were you?

[ refresher course in Buffy: she means the conversation they had the other day about rafts and directions of escape from their captors ]

[ Along the beach, there are some strange shapes in the sand! Some are person-shaped, with heads and what look like wings and dresses (robes!) and a few are just... large quarter arcs.

Chuck is barefoot and has his pants rolled up to his knees, and covered in sand. He flops down onto the sand again, lays on his back and spreads his arms and legs out wide, and then proceeds to -- what looks like -- flail wildly. ]

[ Between Chuck and Bruce, it seems like everyone Lucina comes across are determined to do silly things in the sand. She doesn't especially understand these efforts, but has long given up questioning other people's -- peculiarities.

Having Owain as a cousin has helped with that. ]

Ah, Chuck? [ Lucina starts to lean over to get a better look and thinks better of it, straightening once more. ] -- Did you get one of those odd insects stuck in your shirt? [ She can't think of any other reason why he'd be... this. ]

[ sunbathing sounded so good in theory. he's enjoyed it before at home. shut your eyes, sink into the heat a little, recharge. it's been the best he could get in the sleep department until pretty recently, his brain still going but the rest of him almost relaxed, and no nightmares.

still, it turns out that sunbathing on your own deck with air conditioning and ice water and the workshop and society's infrastructure just a few feet away is different from the stranded on a tropical island version, and Tony is not enjoying this break as much as he wanted to.

but he's trying, so that means sunglasses, and the tiny athletic-fabric shorts that pass for his underwear these days, arms folded behind his head, and ARC reactor a lot more visible than usual, grafted into his chest. ]

[with the spoils of her epic hunt for seashells -- barely a handful of tiny, chipped ones... until she finds more later -- Pepper approaches] I think we should start a collection of these. Who knows, maybe they can be used as currency.

[crouches down next to him (does not sit because, ew, sand in awkward places) and holds out her hand for him to see]

[ usefulness is good, Buffy would like more of it please, so she will be trying to fish.

Slayer reflexes are great when it comes to things that are trying to kill you, but hunting is harder. she has to really focus, to convince her brain that the fish is an enemy.

which might explain why she's standing knee deep in the surf, talking to herself ]

All right, fish. You think you're better than me? Is that it? Well, what's so great about you? So you can swim, that's nothing. I've been swimming since I was in preschool. That's years more experience than you have.

[Getting a resurgence of energy, Zero's made his way to the beach to see about the fishing. The first thing he notices is that she's fast with her hands but still coming up empty.]

Normally they don't respond well to taunting.

[Pepper has decided that she ought to do something at least somewhat vacationy while she's stuck here, so she rolled up the sleeves of her somewhat wrinkled button-down, left her pants on a rock, and went to search for shells in the shallows. it's been about a half hour, so she'll get out of the sun for a bit in a few. in the meantime, feel free to chat her up~]

[Sif recognizes Pepper from their conversation, and angles toward her purposefully. she's been meaning to speak to her, and this seems like a good time]

What are you rooting about for? [smiling easily as she treks over the wet sand]
