[morning of day three. there are clouds out and Allen loves them. he's pretty much given up on shirts and is just grimly bearing with his bright pink sunburn. the video shows him, and what he's working in his hands -- one dark red and exoskeletal -- is some thick grass, weaving several strands together to make a rope. he has a pretty decent amount of it. he's been working on it since the first day]

I feel really strongly that we should make a net so that we can catch more fish. [so that he can starve less. paaaause] But it's taking longer than I'd like. I don't suppose anyone else has any rope to contribute... [he trails off, staring at the water. it looks so cool and blue and inviting. and full of fish]

...You know, never mind. [shoving himself up and steeling his pink-and-red shoulders] Does anyone know how to hand-fish?

I'll keep that in mind. [she leans over her knees again, tilting her head as she watches Effie] What is your work, precisely? [she makes herself sound like a chamberlain, but she seems more like a noble herself. maybe the lady of a household in her society manages her own affairs!]

I think it is not typical, though I would not know. I had no true family growing up, and as the Queen's handmaiden, I spent my time with a family that could not easily pack up and take off to relax for any period of time. [comfortably and without any awkwardness. she obviously doesn't have any reservations about being an orphan or not having vacations]

I was wondering what sort of lift you could get. [he squints up at the sky] If we -- generated enough force that we could send someone flying, how far would they get? How strong would they have to be to swim to land?

I know it sounds a little crazy to even consider swimming for land, but... [heh] I might know someone who could do it.

Oh-- No! It's all right! It's just like this. [he holds up his hands to sort of ward off her reaction, which helpfully also brings the oddity front and center] I'm sorry, I usually try to hide it, but considering the situation...

Much better than yesterday. I've never been so grateful for clouds in all my life. I imagine the water will feel good, too... [he's relentlessly optimistic, is what he's saying]

That's more or less what it is. Innocence is a holy weapon used by Exorcists. Mine is very different from Lavi's, but when you break it down to its simplest essence, it is the same substance.

And without it, I wouldn't... really have an arm, so, I guess it was meant to be. [things he used to believe]

I am an escort for the Hunger Games. I ensure the tributes from my assiged district make all their appearances, eat and present themselves well, and make a good impression. I work with a team, but I have the most time with them. [it's more work than it sounds like~]

I don't know any royalty, but some businesses run sort of like empires. [and some officers act like snooty nobles, but that's another story for another time]

Yes, I had the impression that the business-minded were -- something like royalty in Midgard. [not sure if she's amused or troubled by the implications of that, but] Stark certainly acts like it.

[whoops timey-wimey nonsense makes his derpometer off] Really, Buffy is your mother's name as well... I didn't realize it was such a popular name. [or any kind of popular name]

[it's a lot harder to hide sincerity without all her make-up and the accessories and clothes she's used to, but she puts on a smile anyway, automatically] Competitions! Every year, a boy and a girl from each of our twelve districts are brought to an arena to fight to the death to bring honor and a year of extra food for their district. Last year, both of my charges won! That's just unheard of!

[and it makes her glad, because she likes both of them so very much, and she is so, so tired of watching her tributes die. the other children, too, but District Twelve's especially]

[chuckling] He's a bit-- yes. But he means well. He used to be a lot worse, but even then. He's got a good heart. It just took a lot to bring that out in him.
