[morning of day three. there are clouds out and Allen loves them. he's pretty much given up on shirts and is just grimly bearing with his bright pink sunburn. the video shows him, and what he's working in his hands -- one dark red and exoskeletal -- is some thick grass, weaving several strands together to make a rope. he has a pretty decent amount of it. he's been working on it since the first day]

I feel really strongly that we should make a net so that we can catch more fish. [so that he can starve less. paaaause] But it's taking longer than I'd like. I don't suppose anyone else has any rope to contribute... [he trails off, staring at the water. it looks so cool and blue and inviting. and full of fish]

...You know, never mind. [shoving himself up and steeling his pink-and-red shoulders] Does anyone know how to hand-fish?

I mostly made programs. And robots. [ lips curved up ] But sure, if Dad had ever taken me to the beach, I might've played in the sand.

[ gah, she jumps, and then she frowns at him ]

Well, that's kind of the idea. I'm -- hoping to intimidate them up onto dry land, where I'll have the advantage.

It would be interesting to see what happened, if you were well!

You didn't make me CEO for nothing. [shrugging, drawing back her hand to look at the shells] Who knows if we'll even get to keep them once the time is up.

[pausing as she looks him over, one eyebrow arched] Trying to recreate Iron Man red on your skin, are you? It won't be half as fun, you know.

[antiapocalypse]

Pretty much a two-old-guys-on-a-boat-with-lots-of-beer thing, yeah.

Great! My [ dad ] [ Watcher ] [ librarian? ] friend comes from England. Came. I mean, he's pretty much all expat now. You're a lot younger than him, though. [ except for, you know, the hair! but though her eyes dart to it, she doesn't say anything. ] Are you stuffy yet, or does that take a while to set in?

[everwalking]

[his eyebrows draw together in concern. why are there razor blades in the chocolate]

...Ah, it's not -- I mean, I don't mind. It's a weapon. [he lifts it and flexes his fingers, so, you know. it's clearly also a hand] I was born with it, I think.

[everwalking]

By all means! [cheered by this prospect] A man can't live on plants alone. Or a woman. [you know. whoever]

...Well, I have been told I'm somewhat stuffy. Maybe it gets more pronounced with time. [sheepishly]

I thought that was because I can't tie my shoes without you, and I can't be trusted with my own money. [ he grins though ]

[ and then laughs ] Hey, I wasn't planning on falling asleep out here. I'll probably only get to Barbie pink.

My business acumen was a secondary consideration, of course.

[looking far more amused than she should] I really don't think pink is your color.

More like septenary. Trustworthy is way higher on the list.

No? What about purple? [ innocently ]

[ that gets a laugh, and she says gravely ] Just don't tell me you like scones, and there may be hope for you yet.

[ to scare suburban moms! ]

Yeah? That sucks. [ he folds his arms over his chest ] How's it work?

It's... made of a rare substance we call Innocence. Innocence takes many forms, but they all synchronize with a compatible user, and then that conformer can invoke it at will. It -- enhances me physically, I suppose is the simplest way to put it.

[everwalking]

What's wrong with a good scone? [and then he chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck] Though right now I could go with -- a big, heaping plateful of them. And some ham. Maybe a whole ham.

[actlikealady]

We're about to kill it. [just, pointing that out. she's already back elbow-deep in the water, holding still]

[actlikealady]

You have such high spirits. [even covered in mud to protect herself from being burned by the sun, and stranded, and helpless... Sif's lips quirk up reluctantly] 'Tis a rare gift, finding the bright side of things.

[sublimating]

Yeah, that was definitely the raw end of the deal. I hope you've had the privilege of using one since then.

But just in case -- you'll be the first to know if I find anything remotely fun.

Nah, I'm fine -- really. [he musters a rueful smile for her] I'm a scientist. Testing stuff is -- kind of what I do.

[it's the only way she gets through year after year of watching perfectly nice but utterly inept tributes get killed, dashing her hopes of a promotion (amon other, far less governmentally-sanctioned dreams]

[shrugging] That's what I do! One mustn't lose sight of the fact that we're alive, right? Our own little alliance! [no matter how useless Effie may be, alas] And we are so lucky to have people like you in it. I only wish there were more that some of the rest of us could do.

[Master trained him well. Zero was sent on hunting trips that forced him to survive on whatever was available to them in the wild. Killing and skinning a rabbit was not easy at first for the kind-hearted child he had been, but he'd done it. It was second nature to him now. Fishing was just one of those things he's learned and been taught to survive.]

[This entire time, Zero's hands have been in the water--but now one emerges, fish grasped tightly in his grip.]

The key is to come from underneath and grab them around the gills.

[considers it, almost seriously] I don't know. Depends on how bad a sunburn you want.

To be honest I was hoping for a tan. [ he grins ] But now I really want to know. What would you say are my colors?
