[morning of day three. there are clouds out and Allen loves them. he's pretty much given up on shirts and is just grimly bearing with his bright pink sunburn. the video shows him, and what he's working in his hands -- one dark red and exoskeletal -- is some thick grass, weaving several strands together to make a rope. he has a pretty decent amount of it. he's been working on it since the first day]

I feel really strongly that we should make a net so that we can catch more fish. [so that he can starve less. paaaause] But it's taking longer than I'd like. I don't suppose anyone else has any rope to contribute... [he trails off, staring at the water. it looks so cool and blue and inviting. and full of fish]

...You know, never mind. [shoving himself up and steeling his pink-and-red shoulders] Does anyone know how to hand-fish?

My CEO. She wants to meet you, by the way. [ ideally she would have liked to meet you before he hired you but oh well ]

Yeah. There's a perfectly good explanation for this. [he looks around, as if trying to think it up, but admits] I'm just -- testing the springiness of the sand.

[glancing back at her, and then -- chuckling, raking a hand through his hair] Testing for... hidden trampolines. That's me.

Ooh, look for hidden bouncy castles next. I begged and begged when I was four. The only thing I wanted more than a bouncy castle at my birthday party was a clown.

[ beat ] I got the clown. Turns out clowns are kind of scary.

[she straightens up, slanting him only a second's glance, and then says lightly] Catch, Stark. [and tosses the thrashing fish at him]

[ he throws his hands -- up, away from the fish, but it strikes him in the chest, and then he's darting back and rubbing his chest ewwww fish ]

Five second rule says it's still good for another four seconds. [ pointing at the fish, which is flopping around like crazy, while still being full of visible ew ]

[she straightens up as she sees Effie coming, with a small smile that becomes puzzled quickly. but she admits] That might be a clever idea. I see a lot of people are having trouble with the sun, though it has never been a concern of mine.

[maybe Asgardian skin is just too tough for pesky UV rays! maybe Sif is just too accustomed to a millennia of adventuring to be slowed down by a star millions of miles away. or maybe she's just a genetic lotto win]

Do you think it's working?

[a laugh, shaking her head] You're useless. Keep it from flailing its way into the water, at least. [she's busy getting another one]

That's right. Though you must be from America. [judging by, you know, the accent]

...They don't do a lot of hand-fishing in America, I expect... [ah well]

She does? Is she here? [oh man more work-related-- wait, social skills]

That's good. I mean, obviously ideally none of us would be here, but -- it can be hard to deal with a crisis alone. So it's good, to have someone here.

[lucky goddess, that's what you are, Sif! another reason Effie thinks you'd be a sure winner in any Games!] It seems to be! It doesn't yet feel hot, but if it does--why, the water is just over there!

[we are making the best of this uncomfortable situation, yes indeed!]

[Pepper has decided that she ought to do something at least somewhat vacationy while she's stuck here, so she rolled up the sleeves of her somewhat wrinkled button-down, left her pants on a rock, and went to search for shells in the shallows. it's been about a half hour, so she'll get out of the sun for a bit in a few. in the meantime, feel free to chat her up~]

[with the spoils of her epic hunt for seashells -- barely a handful of tiny, chipped ones... until she finds more later -- Pepper approaches] I think we should start a collection of these. Who knows, maybe they can be used as currency.

[crouches down next to him (does not sit because, ew, sand in awkward places) and holds out her hand for him to see]

[Getting a resurgence of energy, Zero's made his way to the beach to see about the fishing. The first thing he notices is that she's fast with her hands but still coming up empty.]

Normally they don't respond well to taunting.

[neverforgets]

[ Snickers. ] Just so long as nobody drinks it.

[ Twists some rope around his fingers. ] Wonder what'd happen if I used Heaven Seal in the water. Y'know, like tossing a stick of dynamite in.

[ About to look a little sad that she doesn't know what he's doing-- ]

Ah, well--

[ She looks so happy he doesn't have the heart to correct her. ]

You got it! I've only seen bears in the zoo so I had to improvise.

[ slkjdlk now he feels a little embarrassed. But he tries not to show it. ]

Sure! Didn't you make sand angles as a kid?

Yes, you're right. Shall I see if I can get anyone else to assist us?

[ Back home, it would be quite easy. Even at the worst times, she had always had people who jumped when she snapped. Here, though -- well, time to put that princessly charm to work! ]

[ Lucina's very, very close to deciding everyone here is crazy except for her. ]

I wasn't aware sand was normally, ah, "springy".

[ She moves a bit closer, although not yet invading his personal bubble. ]

Perhaps it would be best if you sat in the shade for a few minutes.

[ Lucina's shoulders sink, the small happiness causing her to relax her usual rod straight stance. (It's cool, Chuck; Christian mythology and its outliers don't really exist in her world.) ]

And these are -- mathematical angles, you said? [ She's careful not to disturb their shapes as she steps around them. ]

[ his lips quirk up ] Yeah, it's a mixed bag. Life truly is a box of chocolates, and you never know which ones are full of razor blades.

Is the flayed mutant arm something you don't want to talk about? Sensitive subject? Do you prefer the term "differently-limbed"?

Only in select circumstances. [ totally useful at other times. he considers the flopping fish, though, and after a beat he has a reasonably sturdy twig and he's poking the fish away from the water, like a fascinated little kid. look at it flop! ]

Do you think this qualifies for cruelty to animals? PETA is just about the only group I've neer had on my ass before.
