[the communicator flickers onto Sif's face, which settles into satisfied lines. she figured it out, this enchanted metal device, so now she can go back to what she was doing -- which is wrapping her free arm around a tree and casually hauling it out of the ground]

If we are to follow the whims of our captors -- which I'm of two minds on, myself -- we should at least begin by figuring out who is best-suited for what. [briskly]

So go on. [she drops the tree, also casually, and then goes to tear out another. she's not sure how much wood they'll need] I require knowledge of how many are here, and what skills you possess. We will want someone with knowledge of plants to forage, and someone with skill at fishing. We will need a source of fresh water, and likely vessels fashioned to carry and hold our supplies in. Those with strength or skill at construction who can put together the shelters, and those who might construct defenses around the constructs.

And those of you who are more accustomed to living in human cities, well... [a beat. trying to think of something charitable] We will probably need someone to -- gather sticks, and the like.

[ Buffy spends a while opening and closing her mouth. her eyes keep sliding away. on the one hand, obvious power is obvious. she's never tried to yank a tree out of the ground, but she's thinking it wouldn't be as easy as Sif just made it look.

so. stronger than her. which... fits. she almost wishes it didn't. after very loooong bit of silence, she clears her throat and presses the button to talk ]

I've, um. Got some strength.

[ working together is pretty obviously a necessary thing right now, so. maybe she won't get hung up on!

[she's already familiar with that high thing your voice does. good-naturedly] Focus, Chuck. I thought you knew about the stories. Now we are discussing survival.

[he whistles at the show of strength, impressed. he's not sure if Nicholas could have done that, even hyped on Celebre.]

I've done construction work before. And a little bit of fishing 'cept with a rod, not with my bare hands, but I bet I could learn how to do the second.

And all without gloves. No splinters? [ gamely. like he doesn't know you guys are bulletproof. ]

[wide-eyed (though you can't tell) staring! and then scott remembers that he turned on the video function and he should probably definitely say something]

[excuse him as he fumbles with the communicator for a brief moment]

I can help. I learned a few things at my school.

[hesitates] And I have optic beams. [gestures to his ridiculous shades] I can use them to start fires or clear paths. And--uh, if you feel like taking a break from ripping out trees, I can cut them down. Several at a time, but--we'd have to be really careful.

[to be fair, it's one of the smaller trees. she'd probably need both arms and some effort to lift a big one] [Sif spares the communicator a glance, her expression cooling some, but she says] There's more than enough use for that. Have you any experience working with your hands, or would you be better dedicated to raw uses of strength?

Construction work! I'll take it. [approvingly, that gets you a smile] There'll be others accustomed to rounding up fish, I'm sure. But there may not be many who can manage to work with wood.

Splinters? I'm sure I can make some if you like. [she kind of yanked it up roots and all. why would there be splinters? she didn't break any of the wood]

[splinters aren't even a thing to Asgardians, Tony]

Tell me you're not thinking about splinters when the rest of us are planning for our continued survival, Stark.

[actlikealady]

Now that sounds handy. Starting fires without good tinder is hardly my kind of fun. [she doesn't mind that you can shoot lasers from your eyes, Scott! she does in fact pause, brushing a bit of tree detritus from her tunic and putting her hand on her hip] Tell me how we must be careful.

[she doesn't see the problem here]

Wow. I-- um.

[Sorry Sif, give her a minute; that ease and confidence of hers is so damn impressive even to someone like Cassie that has seen it all when it comes to other super abilities. And then some. Or maybe she's just a hero idolizer by nature. But still, pretty awesome.

... okay, wait, right she had words for this.]

I can grow my body to giant size if it's needed... maybe could help carry large supplies or with any of the building things.

[ From Lucina's end of the communicator, the video flickers on. ]

[ Aaaand then, it flickers back off! Nice talking to you, Sif. ]

I can make fire. [nonchalant, but if you look super closely and know her more than a little, yep, there's a hint of amazement at that. it still doesn't feel normal. nor does any of the other stuff Extremis has done to her.]

Probably take down some trees, too.

[possibly blow up if she's not careful, but she's careful, and there is a LOT of water around, so it could be worse, really]

[it's okay, humans stare a lot! but she gets a better look at Cassie with that, and then smiles for her] I did not know humans could do that. It sounds like a useful skill. How large can you become? [she has a few different ideas...]

[someone who has yet to figure it out. on her end, Sif tries again] Try to press and hold the button in the lower left corner. It should let you respond.

[emends]

[ Despite no longer seeing Sif, Lucina can still hear her, and catches the tail end of her words. ]

Lower left corner, [ she murmurs to herself. Maybe Sif hears it. Maybe she doesn't. Button pressing, get! -- Lucina looks sufficiently relieved. ]

That will come in handy. [you have approval] But why only "probably"? Don't you know?

You are welcome. Though I'm sure you would have realized it on your own soon enough.

[ Hah. Ever tried to teach your seventy-something grandfather how to use address label making software? (I have.) Lucina learning any technological will be exactly like that. ]

I can hope so.

[ Anyway, wasn't Sif saying something? ]

I can assist with our fortifications. [ She's helped make camp numerous times, although usually under the supervision of much more experienced knights and generals. ] And fend off any beasts that would make us their prey.

Excellent. We don't know that there's anything dangerous out there, but I for one would rather not take chances. [she'd like to get a look in that jungle herself... but they need someplace safe to return to first] I presume you'll want wood for them.

[ Nod nod. ]

Wood would be preferable, but I can make do with whatever resources are available to us.

[Sif flashes her another smile, amused] I assure you that wood will pose no difficulty.
