If we are to follow the whims of our captors -- which I'm of two minds on, myself -- we should at least begin by figuring out who is best-suited for what. [briskly]

So go on. [she drops the tree, also casually, and then goes to tear out another. she's not sure how much wood they'll need] I require knowledge of how many are here, and what skills you possess. We will want someone with knowledge of plants to forage, and someone with skill at fishing. We will need a source of fresh water, and likely vessels fashioned to carry and hold our supplies in. Those with strength or skill at construction who can put together the shelters, and those who might construct defenses around the constructs.

And those of you who are more accustomed to living in human cities, well... [a beat. trying to think of something charitable] We will probably need someone to -- gather sticks, and the like.

You should probably put me down for "supervision". [ cheeky, but he adds ] Or construction, if you have to. I'm good with my hands, as long as someone else can do the literal lifting of heavy things. [ kind of short on suits, or tools of any kind, just at the moment ]

[ Lucina had been too busy getting into an argument with her communicator to witness the display Sif had made with the tree. Now, though, she manages a small smile to mirror the other woman's. ]

I don't have control over the beam's range. My visor lets me regulate the level of output, but--that's it. I point and I fire. I wouldn't want anyone to accidentally get hurt because they were fifty feet in front of me and hidden behind trees.

So... no people anywhere near me if I do this.

[aha] Well -- we will need dry sticks and wood gathered, for firewood. [how about the tropical island version of "stay in the car"?]

[hmm. she gives it some thought, and then asks] We would be best-served if we had an axe. Perhaps you could construct one -- you would need to find a suitable rock for the axehead, sharpen it, and bind it to a sturdy length of wood.

Construction, then. [amused. you're not weaseling out of work]

I thought perhaps a wall of rock or a stockade to keep out animals -- or whatever might be in the jungle.

I see the difficulty. [musing. she's not sure how exactly firey eyebeams are a thing, but how isn't important right now] That may yet be a good skill to have. [but if it's unpredictable, perhaps best not to rely upon it]

I don't suppose you know how to make rope, or identify plants that are safe to eat?

I am. But the wood must be divided into more manageable pieces before it can be used. Are you capable at finding food in the wilderness?

I can certainly show you. Though it seems we have many here who have strength, and fewer who have the skill to find food and water in the wilderness... I don't suppose you have any experience there?

Then I'll be happy to help. Got any idea on how big the shelter should be?

In the building we were in yesterday, there were some thirty or so people... Assuming most of them are here as well [though she hasn't seen or heard from Thor yet, and she's kept her eyes up] we will likely need to shelter that many here, as well. I am not sure if one larger shelter, or two or three smaller shelters, would be better...

Though I am not sure if everyone need be provided for. And I have only heard from a dozen or so.

Great, because she would much rather do that. The foraging thing. She was in the Girl Scouts. Tons of merit badges. In fact, I don't know why she didn't say that to begin with.

I have a pretty good working knowledge of what plants are edible and what aren't. I can keep my eyes open for fresh water while I'm hunting.

[she notices that] We do not know if there is a need for defense, yet, so I would rather not focus -- too much of our efforts on it. Are you capable of identifying what plants may be poisonous?

Excellent. [finally, a useful human] I will attempt to find others who can assist you in foraging, and we should all be on the lookout for fresh water. We need that as soon as possible.

I can hunt, but I've little knowledge of plant growth or what is plentiful.

[ So obviously, obviously, she needs to be on berry duty. ]

I... am somewhat more accustomed to eating food than finding it myself. I mean, I could certainly hunt... animals. Or fish!

Fair enough. Well, we'll need food soon enough regardless. We can use you.
