[Everyone will wake up suddenly, as if having drifted off -- while sitting upright in an uncomfortable office chair. In one hand they're holding the communicator, and in their lap is propped a clipboard with a job application (standard, looking something like this; it requests up to ten years of job history, ) and a pen. The waiting room is also fairly standard, except for being empty.]

[The communicator's lock screen reads, Complete the job application. Time limit, twenty-four hours.]

[There are magazines, fake plants, and computers. There's a staff lounge with food -- tupperware that might have belonged to some of these nonexistent workers, popcorn and cocoa packets, vending machines -- and restrooms. There are exits, but characters will be unable to use them... or make their own, or escape in any way.]

[So the characters are stuck here, until tomorrow morning. Set up a comment telling everyone what your character is doing, and thinking, whether they're obeying the task or not, at any time during the day. Then tag other people! Be sure to check back later in the week, when people are encouraged make threads for the evening as well as the day! Characters that have been claimed are also welcome at this point to join the community, and will be able to make their own posts, which can be tagged by anyone taking part in the event.]

[ oh hi teenage boy! she's completely taken but this is still mortifying. ]

--Tell you what. Let's start over.

Hi, my name is Buffy. All my dreams are 100% fully-clothed. [ dream Buffy is a never nude ] And you are?

[ sorry. teenage boy. he finds the idea of nude buffy very interesting.

he grins at her 'start over' idea and nods. ]

Yeah--uhm--yeah. I'm--I'm Peter Parker. [It comes out like a question at first.] I mean...I'm Peter Parker.

[There. That's better.]

Uhm...my dreams usually involve spandex. Don't--don't ask.

[ her lips quirk. his awkwardness is making her feel better about her own! ] You didn't ask mine, so I think I'll let you keep that one to yourself.

If we're doing last names, too, mine's Summers. Buffy Summers. There's an Anne in there, too. [ this place has a lot of one-name people in it. she was starting to get used to it! ]

[Awkwardness is always better in groups.] Thanks. I appreciate that.

[He's also getting a little more comfortable with her. He's grinning and he might be able to actually use words in the right order.]

Yeah? Mine's got a Benjamin in the middle, but it doesn't get used much. [Does it? He hasn't gotten that far in his socializing.] Uhm...I--I like your name. It's different.

[antiapocalypse]

--Thanks, as long as that's not the sweet sound of sarcasm. [ smiling ] I like yours, too. [ straight-faced ] I'm a big fan of alliteration.

[He chuckles a little.] No. Really. I mean I like different names. [And pretty girls. Because really, that's what this is about.]

Yeah? Apparently so were my parents.

[antiapocalypse]

[ maybe smiling a little more ]

Well, my mom had fun with my initials. [ she doesn't really talk about her dad so much anymore. his loss, she'll tell herself, until someday maybe she believes it. ]

[promisebreaker]

[Smiling is good. He'll smile like a dork right back.]

I think that's kind of their right, isn't it? [They can have a discussion about parent issues. He's got lots in regards to his parents leaving him behind even if he knows he was better off for it.]

[antiapocalypse]

And then you have to live with it. [ but fondly ]

Yeah...well I'm sure my English teachers appreciated having a living representation of alliteration in their classes. I survived all right.

[Okay, so he got bullied. A lot. It wasn't necessarily because of his name though.]

[ ...she slides a little closer, bumps her shoulder into his ]

Sixteen Candles lied to us. High school kind of sucks.

[promisebreaker]

[ he ducks his head, grinning and bumps her back a little. ]

Yeah. Yeah. It kind of does and yet, we all survive it.

[antiapocalypse]

[ a tiny noise of wry amusement. no we don't. but he so visibly means well. ]

Just one of life's little challenges.

[ besides, at other high schools that's probably true almost all the time! ]

[In his high school, most of them did. He's not sure he wants to go to Buffy's high school.]

Yeah. [ some nodding ] Yeah, I guess it is. Prepares you for real life...or something like that.

[antiapocalypse]

Definitely something in that whole general area.

[promisebreaker]

I guess we've got to get that experience somewhere. I kind of think I'd like to go back to elementary school. Things were good then. You know, hide and seek, coloring in the morning, a nap and then a snack in the afternoon.

[antiapocalypse]

Sounds like a plan. I'll meet you by the crayons. The green ones were my favorite.

[promisebreaker]

Yeah? I was always partial to red and blue.

[antiapocalypse]

But green tastes the best. [ you dork ]

[promisebreaker]

[ such a dork, but then she's the one eating crayons. it does make him smile. ] I don't know. It's got a distinct waxy taste that's a little off putting.

[antiapocalypse]

I think I liked the waxy. [ earnestly ] [ she dimly recalls! ]

[promisebreaker]

You must be a big fan of those wax bottles with the kool aid inside. [He's still grinning like a doof] And candles. You know they don't taste like what it says on the tin, right? S'mores candle is never gonna cut it.

[Pause]

Now I want S'mores.

[antiapocalypse]

Right, like that's hard. [ who doesn't want s'mores, always?? inhuman people, that's who! her gaze turns thoughtful ] Well... They've got a microwave...
