[Everyone will wake up suddenly, as if having drifted off -- while sitting upright in an uncomfortable office chair. In one hand they're holding the communicator, and in their lap is propped a clipboard with a job application (standard, looking something like this; it requests up to ten years of job history, ) and a pen. The waiting room is also fairly standard, except for being empty.]

[The communicator's lock screen reads, Complete the job application. Time limit, twenty-four hours.]

[There are magazines, fake plants, and computers. There's a staff lounge with food -- tupperware that might have belonged to some of these nonexistent workers, popcorn and cocoa packets, vending machines -- and restrooms. There are exits, but characters will be unable to use them... or make their own, or escape in any way.]

[So the characters are stuck here, until tomorrow morning. Set up a comment telling everyone what your character is doing, and thinking, whether they're obeying the task or not, at any time during the day. Then tag other people! Be sure to check back later in the week, when people are encouraged make threads for the evening as well as the day! Characters that have been claimed are also welcome at this point to join the community, and will be able to make their own posts, which can be tagged by anyone taking part in the event.]

[Peter is just reeling right now. It's not a bad thing at all.] House. Good kitchen. [It's really all he can manage.]

[He steps forward, reaching out to grab her arm.]

Gwen, wait.

[Except he has no idea what to say to her or how to make this better.]

Both of them. All of them. How many jobs did you hand out, by the way?

[she may be starting to get a headache. she can handle a headache. there's medicine for that.]

I guess we've got to get that experience somewhere. I kind of think I'd like to go back to elementary school. Things were good then. You know, hide and seek, coloring in the morning, a nap and then a snack in the afternoon.

Lucina's confusion doesn't quite make it to her ever present frown, and she offers up the communicator when he asks for it. ]

Are you certain you don't wish to complete your examination? It's daunting, but it may be necessary. [ Lucina hadn't understood half the questions it had asked of her. ]

A well of some sort, you mean? [ Looking for it, looking for it... ]

[ Don't let it bother you, Buffy. Lucina is just a killjoy, even her comrades think so.

Her tone softens a fraction. ]

I just... have rarely found a reason to laugh or jest while in a fight. That's all.

[confiscate]

[ Her arm grabbed, Gwen freezes utterly. Her heels click down on the floor, in a gesture that could be called impatience -- were anyone else making it.

Having nothing to say and not wanting to ask, she simply looks at him. ]

I think that, as threats go, or else is pretty thoroughly played out. [ he takes the communicator, turning it over in his hands thoughtfully ]

[ she's fine, and smiling a little ]

Well, there's definitely a line. Wound so tight you might snap? Bad. So totally off the rails you're endangering everyone around you? Also bad.

Sounds like a plan. I'll meet you by the crayons. The green ones were my favorite.

Call it an investment in the future. [ gesturing broadly ] I can't hire you right now. But in a couple of years, when you're done with school... I've got a good feeling about that, sure.

House, good kitchen. [ "nice neighborhood" goes without saying. ] I think we can manage that.

Technically just the one. I'm in negotiations. [ plus, alternate realities! Peter and Chuck know who he is, but come on, what are the odds he really hired Allen in any meaningful way? ]

[ but he sees the headache, and he adds ] I'll introduce you. Promise.

[ he might be being very slightly gentler with you than usual, but. you know. you're not fixed yet. ]

[ There are so many things he wants to say to her and so many things that he can't. He promised her father. He promised and he wants to break that promise more than anything, but he knows Captain Stacy was right. He bites his bottom lip hard, shaking his head a moment. He lets a breath out, not realizing he was holding it until now. ]

I--I don't---I'm sorry.

[promisebreaker]

Yeah? I was always partial to red and blue.

[promisebreaker]

[ That's something else he'll have to take some time to absorb: working for Stark Industries.]

Wow...yeah. I'd--thanks [ because thanks doesn't even begin to cover it.]

I...uhm...I'll talk to her about it when--when we get back. [He just assumes that a house Tony Stark would provide would be in a good neighborhood.]

[it sucks to have a virus constantly trying to run the show, keeping them both slightly on edge until it's all fixed and sorted out, but you know, the extra dose of kindness is nice. after enduring so much, after all the hard work and the nearly losing him several times and having people tell her to just quit and find another job, it's just... nice.]

[she always knew you had a heart.]

That's all I ask. [sighs. some of the tension goes with it. you'll fix Extremis, she knows you will.]

[ yeah, well. maybe some of it will stick. ]

I know. You have phenomenally low standards. Which is lucky for me, since that's about all I can meet.

[ he flicks his eyes up at her on that last part. really, really lucky. ]

[ he smooths his hands down over his clothes. welp. ]

So, hey. Put whatever you like on the application. [ it doesn't really matter now, right? right. ]

But green tastes the best. [ you dork ]

Now that's disturbing. [He could mean the lose of that power, or he could mean that power. Who knows.]

[ well he knows which one he means. he shoulders Mjolnir and moves over to the window to stare out it suspiciously ]

Yeah...it seems sort of...pointless to fill it out now.

[ he paused then. ]

Was this...all you? The...kidnapping and applications?

[ such a dork, but then she's the one eating crayons. it does make him smile. ] I don't know. It's got a distinct waxy taste that's a little off putting.
